“Don’t Freak Out, okay…”

…please never open a conversation with this line unless you want your receiver to freak out. Because of course I did.

Mike called me twice on my way home from work then sent me a text message, “Call me when you get this message.” So I called him back and he told me “Don’t freak out. It’s Brooke. It’s no big deal. She’s okay.” And at this point, I had no patience and yelled, “Tell me already!” Apparently Brooke uses whatever core muscles she had and pulled herself forward out of her car seat (that was placed in the living room) and fell out. She landed on a plastic toy and torn up her face a little. Mah-mah was so freaked out she called Mike. After Mike told me, I was okay with it. She was just bruised in the face last week when she tipped over onto a board book.

On my drive home, I was wondering if I’m a scary mom. Why didn’t Momma Lam call me herself? I went home went upstairs to check up on Brooke. She looked fine to me. She turned her head towards me and I saw the scraps for the first time….(my reaction is reminiscence of when Christine sees the Phantom’s face for the first time)…NO WONDER Grandma was so freaked. It looked terrible! Poor girl.

Brooke's Accident Brooke's Battle Scars

Despite what it looks like, Brooke is fine. And despite how relieved we are that this episode is over, it is only the beginning of the many spills, scraps and bruises these kids will have.

Playtime before bedtime

Gone are the days of screaming blobs before bedtime!

Before, our night time routine consist of two screaming blobs on the ground or on my bed since it wasn’t physically possible for me (they didn’t have P90X yet) to hold two babies at the same time. (The truth is, the times I did try, the crying was just escalated by the fact that it wasn’t comfortable for them.)

Now that they’re 8 months old and sitting, I can sit them down with one of the lowest-tech yet by far the most popular toy in this house hold, the Fisher-Price First Blocks, and they are entertained for at least 20 minutes. I’m not sure why they love it, but we love it that they do (they actually both like the red bucket more than the blocks right now). $10 can buy you at least 20 minutes of freedom. I highly recommend it!

Brooke's First Shoes
Matching Converses – Brooke and Mom

Brooke’s first time in shoes. Her friend, Lauren Lee, gave her these cute pink Converses and we finally tried them on. Mah-mah and Gu-Gu Tina have been asking for shoes so they can “walk” with you outdoors. Now we just need to get Aidan a pair. I have to say everything is cuter when it’s baby size!

Diaper Head

Why is a silly idea deemed a “good idea” when it comes to putting your children in embarrassing scenarios?

Bao had this GREAT idea to put diapers on the kids’ heads and I totally agreed. We got two cute pictures and a killer video that these kids will hate someday. (I will always love it)

Teeth Score

Aidan -2 (Two top teeth)
Brooke – 2 (Two bottom teeth)

Last night I discovered that Aidan has his top teeth! I was curious, so I let him gum on my hand and it turns out there was more than gums in there! He has these big Chinese top front teeth right now. LOL. Oh man, the thumb sucking is just going to make it worst. We should save money for braces now…

Montessori Chronicles: #4 – Northwood Montessori

Northwood MontessoriWith recent news that my company will be switching buildings, I had to check out a montessori that’s closer to home. It makes more sense now and I should have thought about it when I was looking into schools.

Northwood Montessori was always very highly rated but a little more north than I wanted to go since I work by the 405. It’s definitely a hidden gem. Mike and I drove over to tour the school and we both agree that it’s a nice establishment, the teachers seem top-notched and most importantly, the children seem happy. Unfortunately, this is also one of the more expensive options (compared to the LePort schools in Irvine). LePort is more affordable and combined with the family discount (We get 5 or 10% off for a second kid) it’s even better. Northwood provides lunches included with the tuition. Does that justify the extra cost? Mike and I are going to sit down and seriously think about how we can plan out our flexible spending and anything else to best optimize this expense next year.

There’s also the original idea of buying a second condo and letting a family live in it rent free in exchange for child care. Tuition is about the price of a second mortgage anyways!
